PERTAFLEX® Polypropylene

PERTAFLEX® is a strong yet flexible polypropylene substrate, adapted and converted for creating and opposing flex at the point of exit on drainable colostomy bags. Combining a modular, highly customisable capability and durability with a clean, modern aesthetic and finishes, it offers excellent versatility for designers, specifiers, and manufacturers.

Engineered for performance, PERTAFLEX® can be easily converted using a wide range of bag designs and processes, making it functional, discrete and dynamic.

PERTAFLEX® and the Environment

A Responsible Material Choice

Polypropylene offers significant environmental advantages due to its composition. As a polyolefin, it contains no halogens or chlorine and is free from plasticisers such as phthalates, which are commonly associated with other plastics.

At the end of its lifecycle, PERTAFLEX® can be:

• Recycled
• Energy recovered (incineration)
• Safely disposed of without releasing harmful toxic substances

This ensures minimal environmental impact and supports safer material handling throughout its lifecycle.

Recyclability & Circular Approach

One of polypropylene’s key strengths is its ability to be recycled multiple times without significant loss of performance.

PERTAFLEX™ Pinch-Perfect Control System

PERTAFLEX™ has been specifically engineered for use in drainable ostomy applications, where controlled opening and reliable performance are critical.

Through targeted modification of polypropylene substrate behaviour, PERTAFLEX™ delivers a “pinch-perfect” control response—creating a consistent opposing flex when pressure is applied. This action opens the drainage aperture smoothly, allowing a clean, controlled and unimpeded flow during emptying.

The material then naturally returns to its resting state, supporting secure closure and user confidence.

Engineered for Performance

PERTAFLEX™ components are available in:

• 200 micron – optimised for flexibility and ease of activation
• 400 micron – enhanced rigidity for firmer control and structural stability

This range allows manufacturers to select the appropriate balance between responsiveness and support, depending on product design and user needs.
