As the General Manager for Europe, Middle East and Africa, Roger Chantillon is responsible for helping Avery Dennison Performance Tapes to strengthen its commercial capabilities and build strong, customer-facing relationships to drive growth. A graduate in industrial chemistry, Roger joined Avery Dennison from major chemical distribution company Univar Europe, where he was Industry Business Director. He previously held senior posts with Elementis Specialties, BF Goodrich Chemical Europe, and PA Technology.


What role do you see your customers playing in shaping the future of the business?

For me, efficiency is insight. We want to allow our most forward-thinking customers to play an active role in helping us to push new frontiers in developing intelligent solutions. When we ran our Performance Tapes World Leadership Conference at our European office in Turnhout, Belgium, the top 50 leaders from across our global business were present. So, I saw it as a great opportunity to invite SureTECH’s managing director, Oliver, to join us and share his views. He’s been a loyal customer for a long time. Hence, it is absolutely vital for us to learn from his experiences of partnering with us. It’s the reason why I chose him to show us – the Avery Dennison leaders – where the gaps are for converting new opportunities and how our processes could be adapted to create sustainable growth moving forward.

Which companies are paving the way in the application of your products?

SureTECH is one that easily comes to mind. You are leaders in thinking out of the box when it comes to identifying conversion opportunities. In addition, you are able to rapidly create momentum for new products and initiatives. We’ve enjoyed a long relationship that’s been built on trust and a commitment to delivering what we say we will deliver. SureTECH has become an excellent example of how, together, Avery Dennison and its partners can deliver service, quality, responsiveness and flexibility, often in challenging circumstances.

What has been the most challenging task over the past 12 months?

We’ve been too focused on serving just a few standard segments. The challenge during the economic crisis in the Eurozone has been to shift the focus towards creating a value proposition within the right segments, and with the right technologies. Being able to deliver consistent quality and service is crucial. We have to widen our product portfolio to allow customers such as SureTECH to use Avery Dennison for a multitude of solutions and continue supporting them with the resources they need to be able to meet their customers’ needs.
